How Facebook Marketplace fees work
Facebook charges a selling fee of 10% or a minimum of $0.80 for each item purchased with shipping and checkout. The fee is based on the total of the item price, the shipping the buyer pays, and sales tax. Meta's own example is an item at $20, shipping at $5, and tax at $1. The fee base is $26, and the selling fee is 10% of ($20 + $5 + $1), which is $2.60. The payout on that sale is $22.40: the $25 of item price and shipping, minus the $2.60 fee. The $1 of tax is part of the fee and is not added to the payout, because tax collected at checkout is remitted rather than kept by the seller.
The same rule is what the form above starts from, with sales tax left at $0. A $40 item and $6 of buyer-paid shipping is a $46 fee base and a $4.60 selling fee, so the payout is $41.40 before your own costs. Type $4 into sales tax and the fee base becomes $50, the fee becomes $5.00, and the payout falls to $41.00. Tax never lands in the payout. It only increases the amount Facebook takes.
The $0.80 minimum applies when 10% of that fee base would be smaller. Ten percent stays under $0.80 until the item price, buyer-paid shipping, and sales tax together reach $8. A $6 item with no shipping and no tax is charged $0.80, not $0.60, and the payout is $5.20. Meta's Help Center says the 10%/$0.80 minimum applies 'for each item purchased with shipping and checkout'; this calculator prices one item at a time, so for multi-item or bundled orders check your payout breakdown in Facebook.
Two kinds of sale have no selling fee. Local pickup is $0, including an item that would have hit the $0.80 minimum if it had shipped through checkout. There is also no selling fee when the buyer pays you without using shipping and checkout, such as with PayPal. Choose local pickup for either of those sales so the fee line stays at $0, and set both shipping fields to $0 when nothing is being shipped. A buyer-paid shipping amount you leave filled in is still added to the payout, because that switch only zeroes the fee. Local pickup and payments outside shipping and checkout are not covered by Purchase Protection (Meta Help 329122794534612).
Payout and profit answer different questions, and both are on the results panel. Payout is the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, minus the selling fee. Profit subtracts the item cost and the shipping you pay yourself. On the $40 starting example, a $15 item cost and $6 of your own postage leaves $20.40 of profit: the $41.40 payout, minus $15, minus $6. Both cost fields are optional. Leave them at zero when you only want the fee and the payout. If you offer free shipping, enter $0 for buyer-paid shipping and enter the real label price as your shipping cost. The fee then falls on the item price and any sales tax, and the label still reduces profit.

Facebook Marketplace fee calculator FAQ
What does Facebook Marketplace charge sellers?
Facebook charges a selling fee of 10% or a minimum of $0.80 for each item purchased with shipping and checkout. The fee is based on the item price, the shipping cost, and sales tax. Meta's example is an item at $20, shipping at $5, and tax at $1: 10% of $26 is a $2.60 fee. The payout on that sale is $22.40, the $25 of item price and shipping minus the $2.60 fee. The $1 of tax is not added to the payout. There is no selling fee for local pickup, or when the buyer pays you without using shipping and checkout, such as with PayPal. This matches Meta's Help Center page Get paid for selling with shipping on Marketplace, verified October 14, 2026.
Does Facebook Marketplace charge a fee on shipping?
Yes. On a sale with shipping and checkout, buyer-paid shipping is part of the fee base together with the item price and sales tax. In Meta's example, $5 of shipping sits inside the $26 total, and the fee is 10% of ($20 + $5 + $1), which is $2.60. Shipping you pay yourself is not part of that base. Enter the label you buy as your shipping cost so it reduces profit. Free shipping means $0 in the buyer-paid shipping field, with the real label cost still entered as your own shipping cost.
Is there a selling fee for Facebook Marketplace local pickup?
No. Meta charges no selling fee for items that are picked up locally, and no selling fee when the buyer pays you without using shipping and checkout, for example with PayPal. Choose local pickup for either of those sales, including an item that would have hit the $0.80 minimum if it had gone through shipping and checkout. Set both shipping fields to $0 when the buyer is collecting the item or paying you directly. The payout is then the item price, and profit is that payout minus your item cost. A buyer-paid shipping amount left filled in is still added to the payout, because that switch only zeroes the fee. Local pickup and payments outside shipping and checkout are not covered by Purchase Protection (Meta Help 329122794534612).
When does the $0.80 Facebook Marketplace minimum fee apply?
The minimum is $0.80 when 10% of the item price, buyer-paid shipping, and sales tax would be less than $0.80. That is any shipped fee base under $8.
Does sales tax change the Facebook Marketplace fee or payout?
Yes. Sales tax is part of the fee base, and it is not added to your payout. Meta's example puts $1 of tax into the fee: 10% of $20 plus $5 plus $1 is $2.60. On this page's starting example, a $40 item with $6 of buyer-paid shipping and no tax is a $4.60 fee and a $41.40 payout. Add $4 of sales tax and the fee base becomes $50, the fee becomes $5.00, and the payout becomes $41.00.
