Why DigiTool Shed Exists
It started with a bathroom remodel and ended with a website.
I'd found a warm brown paint I loved, bought a gallon, and rolled it on, only to watch it turn purple against my floor tile.
Confused, I carried a tile sample into Home Depot, where a paint expert finally explained undertones, the hidden colors underneath a color. My brown leaned red and blue, while the tile leaned yellow, and together they made the wall look purple. I couldn't believe I'd never learned about undertones, and I was glad I learned on a small, inexpensive bathroom instead of a large, expensive living room. That lesson stuck with me, and it's the reason the paint tools exist.
What I Build
I build the tools I need for problems I'm actually having. I also look at what people are searching for and build those tools a few different ways, because everyone's brain starts from a different place. One person knows their total and needs the price, while another knows the price and needs the total. Each calculator is built to meet you where you are.
Sometimes the problem isn't a missing calculator. It's a missing common language. When people can't even describe a problem the same way, I'll build a standard to help them talk about it. Every paint brand describes undertones differently, so I created the Davey Decimal System, a simple way to compare undertones across brands.
How It Works
Everything is free, and you never need an account. What you type stays in your browser and is never sent to us. Ads and affiliate links keep the lights on. We run scheduled checks to keep the tools current, especially the fee calculators, since platforms change their fees often.
Who's Behind It
I'm David, a thinker and tinkerer in New York. I build the tools with help from Hank, my AI workshop foreman.
