Popular Paint Colors
Click a swatch to open that color in the Paint Color Matcher, already selected, so you can see the closest colors in the other brands in this catalog. The grid is 24 recognizable colors across 12 brands and 3 regions, not a full brand catalog and not a sales ranking.

About these colors
Color names and codes are trademarks of their respective brand owners. DigiTool Shed is not affiliated with or endorsed by any paint manufacturer.
Every swatch links to the Paint Color Matcher, which finds the closest equivalent color in every other brand using CIE Lab color distance — plus a CMYK and RYB mixing breakdown and undertone report.
How the popular paint colors page works
This page is a short grid of recognizable paint colors drawn from the DigiTool Shed catalog. It is not a ranking, it is not a sales chart, and it is not every color a brand sells. Each swatch is a real catalog color: a brand, a color name, and, when the catalog has one, a code. The job of the page is to get you from a name you have heard into the Paint Color Matcher without making you search for it first.
How to use it. Scan the grid. The hex code and the color name sit on the card with the brand. Tap the card. The link opens the Paint Color Matcher with that brand, that color name, and that code filled in, so the matcher can select the same record. From there you can read the closest colors in the other brands, plus the mixing and undertone notes the matcher already shows. If the name you want is not on this grid, do not keep scrolling. Open the matcher and search, or open the Paint Brands directory and browse that brand's full list.
Worked example. You have heard the Sherwin-Williams name Agreeable Gray and you want to know what to ask for in another brand. Find the Agreeable Gray swatch on this grid and click it. The matcher opens on that Sherwin-Williams color, using the name and code stored for this swatch. Read the other brands' closest colors there. This grid does not itself list those equivalents, and it does not promise that two colors with similar names are the same chip. Swiss Coffee, for example, appears more than once on this page because more than one brand uses that name. Click the swatch for the brand you mean. The other Swiss Coffee is a different catalog record.
Tips. Treat the grid as a set of doors, not as a design scheme. Colors that sit next to each other on the page were chosen as recognizable names across brands and regions. They were not chosen because they coordinate on a wall. For a harmony built from one color, use the Paint Color Scheme Generator. For a photo of a room you already like, use the Image Color Palette Extractor, then send a swatch to the matcher. A hex code on a screen is not a wet sample. Sheen and lighting change the read, so confirm with a physical chip before you buy. Names and codes are trademarks of their owners. What this page will not do. It will not tell you a color is the bestseller, the newest, or in stock at a store near you. It will not convert a color into gallons or a dry time. Those are the coverage, cost, finish, and drying-time tools linked from the other paint pages. It will not show every shade of a brand. The full list is the brand page in the directory. If a card's brand logo is missing, the name is still the label. The logo is identification, not an extra color.
Popular paint colors FAQ
Is this a ranking of the best-selling colors?
No. The grid is a short set of recognizable catalog colors. It is not a sales ranking, and it does not claim a color is the newest or the most popular in a given year.
What happens when I click a swatch?
The Paint Color Matcher opens with that brand, color name, and code, so it can select the same catalog record and show the closest colors in the other brands.
Why does the same color name appear more than once?
Different brands can use the same name for different colors. Swiss Coffee is one example on this grid. Click the swatch for the brand you mean. Each card is its own catalog record.
Where is the rest of a brand's colors?
Open the Paint Brands directory and choose that brand. This page only shows the short curated set.
Can I start from a photo or a hex code instead?
Yes. The Image Color Palette Extractor pulls colors from a photo, and the Paint Color Matcher accepts a search when you already have a name or a code. This grid is for names you already recognize.
Will the on-screen swatch match the paint can?
Not reliably. A screen color does not capture sheen, lighting, or how the paint looks on a wall. Check a physical sample before you buy.
